Christmas spending

Spending this holiday season seems to be up about 5% over last season. Those with jobs seem to feel better about their future and are willing to spend. Good for them.

Unemployment benefits have been extended for those who have lost their jobs. I am all for that. It's just that many of these jobs probably aren't coming back. 30 or more years ago, Playtex had a factory in Princeton W.V.. It closed in a cost cutting move. Those jobs weren't coming back. Global businesses move production all the time. They don't need the United States to produce goods. Food yes, and corporate farming needs less people to do that every year. Soon, unemployed because one is overqualified will be not a reality, but only a conceit.

Global piracy

As the Irish t-shirts said, 'The IMF took me shirt'. Greece and others could well wear the same shirts. After agreeing to severe cuts in spending, trying to recover from what their banks helped foster, their bond ratings are downgraded to junk status. Maybe it's fair, but maybe it has just been brought about. By globalists, of monetary and other ilks.

When globalists run a nation, ruination is not unlikely to follow. When done with intention, such leadership is treason.

Good Bye Urban

Urban Meyer has given Gator Nation 2 national titles in his stay in Gainesville. We wish him the best. But if that's what it takes to get rid of Steve Adazzio, the fans are way ahead on the deal.

Ireland and the I.M.F.ers

The I.M.F.  will now help decide Ireland's fiscal fate. After playing in the world economy, and making their bankers happy, they are under the sway of World Bank. The true extent has yet to be outlined , but self-determinism and learning from mistakes can safely be ruled out. Even ex I.M.F.ers agree that is probably not a good thing. It is not truly a global system yet, but Spain and Portugal are next on the hit list. Can the U.S. be far behind. It is amusing that Britain, which is not directly tied to the euro, shall have to help their old buddies out. Since European nations are obligated to crushing bailouts if everything goes south, just who will own everything that is left.

Dry

It hasn't rained much lately.

Pizza

Pizza is good. Even the pizza you get from some national chains. But those aren't great. The crust for one, is just bread. The sauce is generic. I remember my first taste of Pizza Hut. Not bad, but not the pizza I was used to. I was used to 8 pizza parlors within 15 miles, each with a unique crust, and a unique sauce. Obviously, I didn't live in N.Y.C.. The farthest one out served Sicilian. I'd never had it before. Loved it, but not more than the regular ones. (Sicilian is a deep dish pizza that has a great crust. The corner slices were the most prized, and it wasn't gloppy or gross like that stuff termed deep dish which is so common now.)
I remember Nedick's as a kid. Huge thin slices, dripping with oil, washed down with orange soda. Not the best pizza ever, but magic because it was next to the Garden.
The secret to great pizza is the cheese. As some recent TV character pointed out, Mob cheese is the best. I had never thought about it before. It was all Mob cheese back then. It really was better.

Grey areas

Is the glass half full or half empty? Does a backpacker defecate in the woods, or do they hold it? If a tree falls in the forest and lands on a backpacker you don't know, does it matter? If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, are you sure it's not an immature goose?
Two things are certain. If you put lipstick on a Senator, you still have a Senator. If you dress a monkey in a suit, you still have a Congressperson.
Rare editorial comment: Bloomberg as Treasury Secretary? Well, he sure knows how to collect treasure, but his adopted home of Bermuda needs him more than we do. I wonder what he looks like in shorts? Uh, sorry, I take that back. And I don't say sorry hardly at all. It's just that Coasttocoast is having a gory movie show Friday and I don't know that I'll listen.

Suppression

When people want to consider you as stupid, especially those you work with or for, they will not provide adequate, or perhaps any training. So, you're stupid. I guess they should know.

Football is here

The Gators play football on Saturday. Last year was no fun. If they had won the national title, it would have been a relief. This year should be more fun.
